Facebook & Instagram are building a music catalog, DistroKid can get you in

You may be familiar with Instagram Stories. It’s the thing in Instagram that lets people post pics & videos that expire in 24-hours.

Lesser known is “Music in Stories.” It’s a feature in Instagram Stories that makes it easy for Instagram users to add your music to their stories.

Instagram’s parent company, Facebook, has been putting together a large catalog of music that can be used in Instagram Stories, and in other current & forthcoming products (some more info).

Today we’re excited to announce that DistroKid is helping Facebook build this music library.

If you use DistroKid to distribute your music, you can opt-into Facebook’s music catalog which gives Instagram’s 1 billion+ users the ability to use your music in their Stories. This is potentially good exposure.

You’ll also be able to add your music to your own Instagram Stories. Which opens up some novel (and free) marketing ideas. Blog post on that coming soon.

To get your music into Facebook’s music catalog:

  • New music: Just select the “Instagram & Facebook” checkbox when uploading your music to DistroKid.
  • Old music: Sign into DistroKid → Click your album → Click “Add to more stores” → Choose “Instagram/Facebook” → Click “Add”. If you don’t see “Instagram/Facebook” here, congrats, you must’ve opted in when uploading your music & it’s already been added.

This is free for DistroKid members, and is available immediately.

Bonus: You didn’t ask… but yes… you will potentially be paid if someone uses your music in an Instagram story or other Facebook product.

If you’d like to be included in Facebook’s music catalog, visit DistroKid now and add your music.

We hope you enjoy this new service from DistroKid.

Thanks for reading!
